MoriX Co., Ltd.

We announce that MoriX is launching two types of IC cards with the "fingerprint authentication" function.
-An IC card for public offices will go on sale in April, designed to maintain strict control of access to computers.
-A new type credit card will be authorized by international card brands in this spring.

MoriX Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Morihiko Kubota; hereinafter "MoriX"), which develops and sells fingerprint authentication systems, will begin selling "MoriX Card," an IC card with a fingerprint authentication function to be available for companies and public offices, in April 2020. The IC card allows you to control entrance to and exit from the area of departments that treat confidential information and to have strict control of employees' logon history and access rights to their computers. The IC card functions as both a contact and contactless card and can be used without making a significant change to any authentication system already installed. We are expected to sell 100,000 cards or more in our first year of sales.

We will also begin producing a high volume of clearance cards for major international card brands in the middle of 2020. The card functions as both a contact and contactless card. We plan to obtain authorization from such card brands in the spring of 2020.

Moreover, MoriX and Toshiba Infrastructure Systems & Solutions Corporation (Head Office: Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture; President and CEO: Takayuki Konno) have developed a contact IC card with a fingerprint authentication function by using a fingerprint sensor and authentication algorithm. Toshiba Infrastructure Systems & Solutions Corporation plans to begin selling the IC card as the "BISCADE™* Card." As the first step of sales, the card has been selected by Laurel Intelligent Systems Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Mikio Fujii) to be used for its security system "FSS®SmartLogon®TFPA."

Although the government and companies have increasingly regarded information security as highly important, company and personal information leakage incidents have occurred one after the other. Especially, there are increased incidents of personal information leakage that require a large amount of damages to be paid. In that respect, it is becoming an important issue for companies to enhance safety in their internal departments, where treat confidential information.

*BISCADE™ is a registered trademark of Toshiba Infrastructure Systems & Solutions Corporation.

MoriX Card Overview

Enhanced Logon Functionality by Two-factor Authentication
The card provides a two-factor authentication by a combined function of an existing IC card authentication and additional fingerprint authentication. This creates a safe environment to logon to your computer or other devices.

Easy Lock/Unlock Function
When you leave your desk, you can lock your computer or other devices just by taking a card out the device. You can also easily unlock it by inserting the card back into the device with your registered finger on the sensor.

Decreased Risk of Unauthorized Access
No need to worry about unauthorized logon to your computer or other devices if you lose your card. The card does not work with other person's fingerprint. If several persons have access to one device, you can make a setting to refuse other fingerprints than those registered. It makes possible to enhance safety without lowering the level of convenience.

MoriX Card Features

  • The card does not record the fingerprint image. The fingerprint feature is coded based on our unique algorithm to be used for authentication.
  • The card works by placing your registered finger on the sensor. It completes authentication within a second and its false acceptance rate is one in 80,000 or more.
  • The card has a power consumption of 10 mA and a 0.18-millimeter thick sensor, achieving the world's highest performance.
  • The card meets the international standards as a financial card.

Other Products

We have developed a clearance card with a fingerprint authentication sensor for the financial industry by using our unique patented fingerprint sensor and authentication algorithm. We are in the final stage of obtaining authorization from major international card brands and plan to add the card to our product line up in the latter half of 2020. We are working on development of a membership card with a fingerprint authentication sensor designed for the entertainment industry. The membership card will help to verify a purchaser's identity upon purchase of tickets or goods more strictly and to restrict unauthorized resale of tickets for concerts or other events. Additionally, we aim to launch new products such as smart keys for the automobile industry, cards for public institutions and a variety of security cards, and we are developing them jointly with companies in each industry. Through these developments, MoriX strives to sell several million cards (including clearance cards) both domestically and internationally within the year of 2020.
